Karate Sankukai East Midlands

West Bridgford | Silverdale | Ilkeston

The hardest step of any martial art is taking that first class.  You'll find we are always welcoming to new members, but here are a few guidelines before coming down.  The first lesson is always free, so you have time to decide if the club is right for you.

All members are fully covered for Public Liability and Accident Insurance. For further insurance information, please visit http://www.feko.co.uk/.

Adults (16 and over)

  • Either contact us first so we know you're coming or come and find us at training.
  • If you're not sure, you are welcome to watch a session before giving it a go.
  • You should wear wearing suitable clothing.  Jogging bottoms or other loose trousers are ideal.  Jeans or skirts are not suitable.  Loose fitting tops such as a t-shirt are perfect.  You need to be able to move your arms and legs freely.
  • You will be asked to remove shoes, socks and all jewelry.  This is for safety reasons.  Any jewelry that cannot be removed (such as rings) must be covered with tape.
  • The instructors will guide you where to stand and help you with the first techniques.  It doesn't matter if you can't do it straight away, just follow what others are doing.
  • If you enjoy your first session and come back for a second time, you will need to fill out a membership form and join Karate Sankukai East Midands (KSEM).
  • There is no requirement to go out and buy the proper clothing straight away.

Cadets (6 to 15 years)

  • Either contact us first so we know you're coming or come and find us at training.
  • If your child is not sure, you are welcome to watch a session with them before giving it a go.
  • Parents/guardians are encouraged to stay for the first few sessions, particularly with younger children to make sure they settle in.  If you have to leave, you will be asked to fill in a short form with your contact details.

  • You will be asked to remove shoes, socks and all jewelry.  This is for safety reasons.  Any jewelry that cannot be removed (such as recently pierced ears) must be covered with tape.
  • For younger children, we typically introduce them to one of the children already at the club so they have a friend for their first session.  As much as realistically possible, we will then keep them together for that training.  Experience shows that they soon make friends.
